So, let’s talk about levels. How does the NPL in Australia stack up against football here in England — especially Steps 2, 3, and 4 of the National

League system?

If you’re one of the top players in Victoria or New South Wales, chances are you could step into the National League at Step 1, and be able to hold your own in Step 2, North or South. That’s the standard we’re talking about.

Now, NPL Queensland is a little different. The overall quality is slightly lower, but the very best players from Queensland can still make the jump — definitely at Step 2, and in many cases, they’d do well.

For most NPL Queensland players, though, Step 4 is about right. That’s where they’d be competitive. Step 3? That’s more of a challenge. To be honest, the average player from NPL Queensland, Victoria, or New South Wales would either just about manage or might struggle at Step 3.

So to sum it up: the elite NPL players from Victoria and NSW could go straight into Step 1 or 2. Queensland’s top talent can still get there, but on average, Step 4 is the closest comparison.

The game in the UK is so different to Australia it will take

more time to adapt.
